I received a very sweet surprise gift at Christmas! My sister sent me a pillowcase that was embroidered by either my Grandma or Great Grandma. I love it!! On the book it reads how to be a glamour puss. Sweet!

Pretty Stationary

Here is a look at some vintage stationary I bought at an auction a few months ago. It was with some greeting cards (some vintage some not so). The color of this rose is my favorite color!!

I also scanned the envelope. The envelopes are sealed shut so I will have to steam the rest of them. I thought there was something in this one and ruined it to get it open.

On November 19th I shared a picture of a rose (as well as a couple rosebuds) that I was amazed was hanging on through the freezing nights. We had snow a couple days ago and yet when I looked at the bush today I saw that the buds had bloomed! Wow! Also there are a few more rosebuds. Here they are, hey I know they are not the greatest looking but they have some character don't you think?

Back on October 26th (my blogoversary!) I mentioned that I will be having a give-away. Well, I am afraid patience would be a good thing right about now because we have yet to go through the Christmas decorations and stuff (there is a lot, trust me). My husband built a shed so we would have a better place to store them. He was tired of almost killing (exaggerating a bit there) himself getting it down out of the rafters in our garage. (Yeah, why would they even put storage in a house built in 1847.)

This show is soo funny! I wish they would have been around longer. In the beginning credits it tells you who the guest star is and then immediately you see him/her killed off. My favorite part was the epilogues although the whole show was funny. Here is what I am talking about.

My Autumn Rose

We have been having freezing temperatures at night and yet this pretty, pink rose has hung on. I am also sharing the rosebuds that may never get the chance to bloom. These rosebuds remind me of something I heard once.

An elderly man, I had the pleasure to hear in person, told the story of when his daughter was little and she couldn't wait for the rose in the garden to bloom, she forced the petals and destroyed the rose. In God's time the rose would have bloomed beautifully, He has been doing it since the beginning of time.

Here is my November Angel I got at one of the many auctions I have been to. She would have a friend, February Angel, but Miss February had a broken halo so I gave her to the Goodwill, I wish I hadn't done that. Oh well, at this point Miss November is an only child.

Yay, it's my blogoversary!! I started this blog 5 years ago and it has been wonderful! I have met some wonderful people in the blogging world. Seasons

I love living where we have the four seasons. Each season has its own unique qualities.

Winter is snow and sledding, hot chocolate and Santa and did I say snow?

Spring is beautiful sunrises or sunsets and flowers, exciting thunderstorms and warmth.

Summer is long days of sunlight and no coats or sweaters, Popsicles and vacation.

I grow in anticipation of each season. Fall is in the air now. We will have pumpkins and fallen leaves, crisp mornings and hay rides.

In the Fall, plants and trees die or sleep making me appreciate the Spring when things come to life. In the Winter we have extreme cold making me appreciate the warmth of Summer. I try not to complain about heat or the cold because I know it is temporary and soon things will change again. It does every year with out fail.

About a week ago I received a package in the mail but needed to wait to open it. Mark was wondering what I had done this time, like I was Lucy Ricardo or somethin'. The return address said Dirty Dilemmas. Well, I finally opened it and I had won 3rd prize in a sweepstakes I had entered online. It was a bath towel from Axe with their logo on it. Cool! Something is better than nothing, right?

Chocolate Eclair Cake

Today I made Chocolate Eclair Cake for the second time. Why? Why, you ask, well because it is soo good and cool for the hot weather (heat index 105-110). Oh yeah, and very easy to make and not use the oven (that's a plus right there). My whole family gobbled it up last time I made it and so it needed to be repeated. I found this recipe at Mommy's Kitchen

This is the recipe:
Chocolate Eclair' Cake
2 - (3.5 ounce) packages instant vanilla or french vanilla pudding mix
1 - (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping (cool whip), thawed
3 - cups milk
1 - (16 ounce) package graham crackers
1 - (16 ounce) tub prepared chocolate frosting

Pour the dry pudding mix into a medium size bowl and measure out 3 Cups of milk. Pour into the bowl and whisk the pudding until blended and begins to thicken. If you don't have a whisk a spoon works just as good. add the thawed cool whip and gently fold into the pudding mixture. Arrange a single layer of graham cracker squares in the bottom of a 13x9 inch baking pan. Evenly spread half of the pudding mixture over the crackers. Top with another layer of graham crackers, then the remaining pudding mixture. Top with a final layer of graham crackers. Now it is time for the frosting. I put my chocolate frosting in the microwave for just a bit on defrost!! don't choose cook or you will have a clumpy mess. Microwave it for about 20 -30 seconds just to get it nice, smooth and pourable. Pour the frosting over the whole cake and spread it all around up to the edges of the pan. Chill cake for 6-12 hours and then serve. You want it to be soft just like a true eclair.

Here are a few pictures as I made it.

First you put a layer of graham crackers on the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish.

Next you fold whipped cream into vanilla pudding.

Then you put half of the pudding on the graham crackers.

Second layer of graham crackers.

Second layer of pudding.

Third layer of graham crackers.

Finished with the last layer of chocolate frosting. Yum!!

...depending on where you look on the internet. One place I looked at said the heat index is 107 degrees with a humidity of 63%! Everything feels damp, I hate that! I finally went to make some freezer jam with the strawberries and messed up the first batch. Well, messed up meaning it is not a gel like it suppose to be but still very good and edible just a bit on the runny side, OK, a lot on the runny side. Meaning makes good sauce to put on ice cream. Yum!! The next batch was right on! I didn't realize there were directions until I started on the 2nd batch. Silly me. The Sure-Jell was boiled with water like it suppose to be on batch number 2. I love freezer jam, don't you? Did you notice that they have Sure-Jell for less or no sugar? Might have to try that next year.

Wow! I was wishing we would get one good snow this year and we got it! The bummer side is we won't get to go sledding like it's suppose to work out when we get this much snow. Our county is on level 2 snow emergency, which means you only go out if you absolutely have to. I guess it doesn't matter, we can't even get out of our driveway, anyway. The drive to church, Sunday, was breathtaking! It had snowed just enough to have it stay on the trees and everything else. There was still a bit of fog, too. I had my camera in my purse and took pictures. So now I can share my beautiful drive with you. This first picture is taken not far from my home. It takes us 35 to 45 minutes to get to church. I hope these pictures show a little of the beauty we witnessed. And oh yeah, remember that these were taken from a moving car.
We were about 5 minutes from church when I took this picture of the sun.

This is something I received in an E-Mail and thought I would post it on here.
This video shows the winner of "Ukraine's Got Talent", Kseniya Simonova, 24, drawing a series of pictures on an illuminated sand table showing how ordinary people were affected by the German invasion during World War II. Her talent, which admittedly is a strange one, is mesmeric to watch. The images, projected onto a large screen, moved many in the audience to tears and she won the top prize of about £75,000. She begins by creating a scene showing a couple sitting holding hands on a bench under a starry sky, but then warplanes appear and the happy scene is obliterated. It is replaced by a womans face crying, but then a baby arrives and the woman smiles again. Once again war returns and Miss Simonova throws the sand into chaos from which a young womans face appears. She quickly becomes an old widow, her face wrinkled and sad, before the image turns into a monument to an Unknown Soldier. This outdoor scene becomes framed by a window as if the viewer is looking out on the monument from within a house.. In the final scene, a mother and child appear inside and a man standing outside, with his hands pressed against the glass, saying goodbye. The Great Patriotic War, as it is called in Ukraine, resulted in one in four of the population being killed with eight to 11 million deaths out of a population of 42 million. Kseniya Simonova says: "I find it difficult enough to create art using paper and pencils or paintbrushes, but using sand and fingers is beyond me. The art, especially when the war is used as the subject matter, even brings some audience members to tears. And theres surely no bigger compliment."

On Saturday we went and let John get an early Christmas present. He was feeling kinda left out because his brothers each have a cat and so we took him to the animal shelter on Saturday and let him pick out one. I think he made a good choice. On the way home I told him he needed to think of a name and I suggested Missy and my hubby suggested Misty. He replies "I like Mississippi". Well it's his cat he can name it whatever he wants. The next day hubby was talking about it and said "how about Mississippi Rose?" The name Rose was on her collar provided by the animal shelter. Anyway to make a long story short I present to you Mississippi Rose:

This is my favorite Christmas movie. I had a friend once who had never seen "It's A Wonderful Life" and I couldn't believe it. At that point she was going to keep it that way. Do you know anyone who has never seen this movie? It's been a few years so maybe she has had a weak moment. How can you not watch it at least once? I love Jimmy Stewart and I love Donna Reed. I watched "The Donna Reed Show" on Nick at Night, it was a wonderful show. And Jimmy Stewart was good in everything he did. So enjoy the trailer. I did...now where did we put that movie?

The radio station that plays Christmas music every year has already started playing it. They had a vote on their website to see when people wanted them to start playing it and one of the options was "now", and yes that is what I voted. Although, this is the time they usually start so they must have been seeing if they need to change when they start. I would listen to Christmas music all year long if my hubby would let me. Actually, he tells me he doesn't care if I listen to it when he is at work, he just doesn't need to be listening to it until the day after Thanksgiving.

I Can Hardly Believe...

Thanksgiving is 13 days away. Where does the time go. It is the best time of year. Mark made sure we have a place for our Christmas tree in the living room. He kids me about me wanting the tree up now since we have the place prepared for it. We have seen houses that do have their trees up and the Christmas lights on outside. The Christmas Spirit seems to be hitting people early this year. I don't have a problem with it. Makes me think of the Nat King Cole song that goes
"...far away across the sea in sunny Italy, there's a quaint little town, not a clock has been wound for over a century. They don't know the time or year and no one seems to care, this is the reason the Christmas season is celebrated all year. Buon Natale..."
I love the Christmas album we had by Nat King Cole growing up it was played over and over again. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We went to Springhill yesterday and picked up a few things. Mark picked out an ornamental pear tree (to go with the one he received from his Mom on his birthday) and we got this butterfly bush as well as some little butterfly bushes, a couple rose bushes, a shasta daisy and mint.

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary a week early. Last night we went and saw Firefall and Poco in Newport, Kentucky. It was a dinner show that we both enjoyed. Here is a video I found on Youtube. I took video with my digital but the sound did not turn out, these are better. Couldn't find any good videos of Firefall. I really like Poco more, anyway.

Started homeschooling on the 17th. Have all 3 this year. Can you say "challenging"?! I feel like that is all I do, probably because it is pretty much. I find homeschooling difficult and really have to fight envy of those it seems to come easy to. I had my doubts and suggested we send the boys to public school but hubby is pretty set on me doing this, so this I do. Anyway, I say all this because I will be posting even less now. You are thinking "less? How can you post less than nothing?" :o)

Have to say that John loved language arts today. He is in kindergarten and today we acted out Jack and the Beanstalk and of course at the end I was the ogre (yes, that is right) and he was Jack and I chased him. Being chased was his favorite part, lol. He wanted to do it again so we did and we would probably still be doing it.

Oh, and I am having a yard sale tomorrow. Too much work but need to do it. I am praying it doesn't rain. No rain would be nice.

Well, I gotta go there's a history lesson with Matthews' name on it.

Yep, in the pouring down rain. We bought oodles of stuff and when I have time I will share a few things from this auction. I love when we get bunches of stuff for a buck! Of course, they didn't have things covered very well, which is very sad, some paper stuff is drying out. We didn't get that much paper things, though, thankfully. Some that I bought before the down pour I immediately put in the car so those things are good. In the car to and from the auction I was listening to a radio station that was doing Christmas in July. What fun! Every other song or so was a Christmas song! Loved it!

...where does the time go. Actually he has been 9 for over a month, his birthday was June 8th. I have been a day (ok a month) late and a dollar short a lot lately. This is his 9th birthday. Can you tell he loves strawberries?

This picture is from one of the books I got at auction a couple weeks ago. The copyright is 1892. So sweet! I love it, don't you? The only thing I did to it was crop and scale. Maybe when I have more time I will do more. Oh, yes,and take a better picture. :o)

This is of my sisters and I. Terri, Tammie, Me, and Kim.

We enjoyed our time together the end of April, beginning of May. I got Tammie going with Facebook and when we were in Wenatchee we got Kim going with it and then Terri. Now we 4 can go on Yoville and Farmtown and chat with each others' avatars. Not the same as in person but fun, when we are in different states.
