Lightning Bugs

This is a picture I took of a lightning bug in case you were wondering what they look like. You can click on it to see it bigger.

This is John's approach to catching lightning bugs. After your hand cannot hold any more put them in the jar. Notice them on the sides and the one that is on his arm trying to get away. Luke and Matthew would catch maybe up to 3 and then put them in their jars. In the morning when we let them go John let one go but wanted to keep the rest, I helped him let them go and later when I looked they were still in the same spot (didn't make it).

Matthew and a lightning bug.

You can see one lighting up to the right in the jar (really you can).

Here's Luke putting one in his jar.

Once again you will want to turn your volume down. I gotta learn not to talk or I need to whisper when I take these.

A few more auction things

Here are a few more things from that same auction (June 16th) we got the wardrobe. Mark got 2 nice sized lots of Christmas decorations for a dollar piece I will be posting more later. This is just a few of the ornaments. When I first saw these (there are 2) I thought they were broke. They are hollow with bells inside. A Christmas platter. I won this separate from the Christmas lots with a non-Christmas silver plated platter. Here is a box of ribbon that was in with the Christmas decorations. Will not need to buy ribbon for a while. Some pretties in there! Oh, yeah! This chair is also from the auction.

A Great Deal

This is the wardrobe my hubby won at the auction for 5 dollars a week ago. It is in our bathroom being used as a linen closet. I love having a place for the extras. I asked him if I could paint it white and he said "You have been spending to much time looking at my sister's blog". I love my sister-in-laws' blog!! Don't you think it would look wonderful white? (Or maybe not)

Not very long and kinda funny

When I received my new digital camera I kept hitting the wrong button. Here is one result of that. As you can see from how little Matthew is I have had my camera a couple years. You might want to make sure your volume is turned down a bit.

I Gotta Love My Hubby!

So I look through the posts and see that some pictures are rearranged a little bit. So I mention it to my sweet dear husband and he says something like "you should have figured out how you wanted your blog before you ever started posting". I am computer illiterate don't you know. I didn't know this was customizable until he started helping me with the header (which isn't quite right just yet). Yep, gotta love my hubby!! I thank God for him.

Making Progress Here

So how do you all like the way my blog is looking? You know I need to use my favorite colors, right? Purple and turquoise (shades thereof). Keep checking back 'cause I am not quite done with all I want to do.

Happy Juneteenth

I have never heard of this before and it's been going on for 140 years. I think it's pretty cool! Learn something new every day.

Here is a great link about Juneteenth.

Blog undergoing changes

I am trying to personalize Cheryl's Place a little bit so bear with anything that doesn't seem quite right. It will take me (and my husband) a little tweaking here and there but hopefully it will not take too long to get it the way I want it. I wouldn't be able to do it without Mark's help. The picture of the iris in the header is one from our yard Mark took this year. Iris's are my favorite flower.

We went to an auction on Saturday. These people had nice stuff. Mark got 2 lots of nice Christmas decorations for a dollar a piece. I spent a bit more on some pretty things that Mark wasn't too sure about. Mark won a wardrobe for 5 dollars that will fit in our bathroom and hold our towels and linens (after Mark puts shelves in it). We do not have much storage so this will work until we get something nicer. Mark also won an old dresser for 3 dollars that needs a lot of work but will be beautiful after he refinishes it. I will try to get pictures to share in the next couple days.

Thinking About My Mom and Dad

Once again June 17th is Father's Day as well as my Mom's birthday. She would have been 74 years old tomorrow. I will be thinking of my Dad and my Mom. I miss them both so much!! I would have loved for my children to have known them to remember them. I think that's one of the hardest things about them both being gone, my boys will never have known their Grandpa and will probably not remember their Grandma. My Daddy once told me I can't remember his exact words but it went something like this..."I use to be shy but one day I realized everybody has lungs, heart, etc. like me and from that day I no longer was shy." I couldn't believe he had ever been shy because he had so many friends. My Mom and Dad were married in 1950 when he was 19 and my mom was 17. After my Mother passed away we were going through some of her things and found a little pocket calendar that she journaled in. Actually, the only thing she wrote about was my Dad. This of course was before they were married so she was 16 to 17 (1950). She talked about seeing my Dad at the neighbours house and about going out with him. Then one day she wrote that her and my Dad broke up. (We could see the love my Mom still had for my Dad). A couple days later my mom wrote that she took a walk and saw my Dad at the neighbours house and then a day or so after that they are together and my Dad proposes (their wedding day is Nov.12). They had their first child in 1952 and their 6th child in 1962. I will always miss my Dad and my Mom. I love them so much!!!!

Had to laugh at that title "It's June Already". It's already the middle of the month.

It's June Already!

Where does the time go? John turned 3 on May 21st and Luke turned 7 on June 8th. They really do grow up fast. I plan on adding pictures when I have more time.

"It is the month of June, The month of leaves and roses, When pleasant sights salute the eyes, And pleasant scents the noses." ~Nathaniel Parker Willis
